I’d heard a lot of people talk about making it big with the help of social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. But, I never gave it a lot of thought. I assumed those who actually found success were those who already had ties to the industry, who had wealth, or famous family members. But, then it happened to a friend close to me and I knew then and there that it was so much more than talk.
My friend was a single mother. She had four small children under the age of 10 and worked two full-time jobs to provide for them. She never gave up her dreams of being successful, but money held her back. She began using the site to promote her new small business. She started selling children’s products and became very successful doing so. In fact, I started helping her make the clothing that she was selling and did so with a huge smile on my face.
She used Instagram to post pictures. I laughed at her taking 500 picture of one of her items, but she knew that it took the right shot to appeal to the audience. Little did I know how right she was at that time. She would get real Instagram followers every time she posted one of her new pics. I must admit, the photos were great. She would also get real Instagram followers by buying them from a company. A lot of people do that, I hear, and it definitely benefited her.
She used Facebook, Pinterest, Snap Chat, and Twitter in addition to Instagram, but I am certain she had the most fun using IG. I joined her on the site and her posts spewed joy and happiness. I think the energy is something that everyone else could feel, too. She was so successful with the children’s products that she began making her own line of candy. The salted caramels were a personal favorite. She didn’t enjoy this as much as the children’s items but it gave her even more success and it was awesome. She handled the candy business for about six months but it was all too much to handle herself so she stuck with her favorite.
Today she is living comfortably after years of struggling very hard just to keep the lights on in the house. It didn’t happen for her overnight and we all think (myself included) that it should happen in a specific amount of time and when it doesn’t, we give up. Most people do need to work for what they want. However, thanks to social media, it is possible and now I can see that with my very own eyes. She is a true inspiration for anyone who wants to find success but thinks they won’t be able to do that because they lack money or time. It just isn’t true. Where there is a will and the effort, there is a way, no matter who you are.
